The W Punta de Mita, the brand's second property in Mexico, has opened in the Los Veneros oceanfront development in Punta de Mita, on the Pacific coast north of Puerto Vallarta. The new resort, which is designated a W Escape, offers 119 villas in a playfully stylish atmosphere.

The luxury property was carefully designed not to disturb the natural surroundings, which include fig trees and springs. The look and feel of the design are heavily influenced by traditional Mexican art, culture and kitsch: A nine-foot Huichol statue greets guests from a reflection pool; wall art is inspired by papel picado folk art; and lucha libre masks, mariachi instruments and candy skulls are featured throughout the property.

Each of the W's guest rooms have private balconies or patios and Mexican-tile floors and headboards made from either surfboards or punctured tin, along with W's signature bed and amenities. There are two groups of villas: The Ocean Escape Villas, which together resemble a pre-Hispanic fishing village, have private patios that encourage stargazing, while the Jungle Escape Villas have private balconies that allow for up-close viewing of the papelillo trees and hanging vines.

The resort has one Extreme WOW Suite, a 4,460-square-foot, two-bedroom accommodation with a private terrace and a swimming pool that circles around the island-like living room.

Among the dining outlets are Jean-Georges Vongerichten's Spice Market, which serves Pan-Asian cuisine and offers a VIP section in a glass dome; Chevicheria, which offers ceviche and craft beers on the beach from a converted 1950s Chevrolet 3800; and Venazu, an all-day casual dining restaurant with authentic Mexican cuisine. The F&B crown jewel of the property is the ultra-exclusive Mesa1, which was built on an island in the middle of a spring-fed lake and can accommodate only one seating for up to 16 people per day. Guests arrive via stepping stones that emerge from the lake and then disappear once everyone has been seated; they are then served a customizable seven-course tasting menu on a table made from a massive Parota tree trunk from the local forest.

The hotel offers a 4,000-square-foot AWAY Spa with five treatment rooms, a relaxation deck and therapy pools. The WET Deck, which surrounds the pool, has six private cabanas, each with flat-screen TV, fully stocked mini bar, shower and bathroom. Three meeting and event spaces are available and total 2,600 square feet.
