Ground has been broken for the 612-room Omni Louisville Hotel, scheduled to open by March 31, 2018; the 30-story building also will have 225 residential apartments. The property will have nearly 70,000 square feet of flexible meeting space and three restaurants, including Bob's Steak & Chophouse.

Plans also call for a lobby lounge and a rooftop pool deck that will have a bar and a full kitchen, as well as a speakeasy-style bar with bowling lanes on the lobby level. Other offerings include a spa and fitness center, and a market offering an array of groceries and household products. The new property will open just before the renovation and expansion of the adjacent Kentucky International Convention Center is completed; that project is set to debut in August 2018.

Robert Rowling, founder of Dallas-based TRT Holdings, the holding company of Omni Hotels & Resorts, said, "Of all the things going on at Omni right now, this is probably the one I'm most excited about." Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer called Omni an "authentic, unique brand that will become part of our city's DNA."
