Now accepting guests is the 150-room W Costa Rica-Reserva Conchal, the first W hotel in the country and the second to open in Central America this year (the W Panama was unveiled this past March). The Costa Rica property -- within a 2,300-acre nature reserve just minutes from Tamarindo, a world-famous surfing spot -- is also the latest to open under the W Escapes brand, the chain's spin on the traditional resort experience.
"The land of pura vida is where the playful spirit of the W brand was born to run free," said Anthony Ingham, global brand leader, W Hotels Worldwide. "The hotel is our latest W Escape, W's platform for hotels that redefine the resort experience for the modern traveler looking for a holiday rooted in unexpected experiences and local sizzle."

Designed by the Mister Important Design firm in tandem with the in-house design team at W Hotels and Ronald Zurcher Architects, W Costa Rica embraces its surroundings with interpretations of the natural beauty of nearby beaches and jungle. Upon arrival, guests are ushered through an avenue of 2,000 Bursera Simaruba trees or Indios Desnudos, a living fence grown by local farmers to pen in livestock. As guests approach the Living Room, the brand's spin on the hotel lobby, floor-to-ceiling stone and wood panels line the walls of the artistically lit hallway, designed to evoke one of Costa Rica's favorite instruments, the marimba. The indoor-outdoor Living Room immerses guests in the Guanacaste Forest.

Those on a quest to shop will be able to do so without leaving the grounds at W Hotels The Store, which will feature a rotating curated collection of artisan and regionally inspired items.

The Zona Azul Beach Club is the brand's first such venue on the white sand beaches of Playa Conchal, soon to be accessible from the main property by zip line. Features here include an infinity pool and a restaurant offering a menu that melds international tastes from Italy, Japan, Greece, California and Costa Rica. The resort also offers the Reserva Conchal Golf Course.

When it comes to accommodations, the Tree House Suites at W Costa Rica are nestled into the mangroves, while the Extreme Wow Suite, the brand's presidential suite, features an expansive bar, a fully-stocked library and an entertainment kiosk. This suite also has a large, private wraparound deck, a private pool and a marble surfboard that serves as a unique dining table. The Extreme Wow Suite can open completely to the deck, creating an immersive indoor-outdoor space. Even the standard guest rooms have something special: In a true first for the chain, every room at W Costa Rica comes outfitted with an in-room draft-beer tap for pouring tastes of a local brew.

W Costa Rica includes six options for dining and cocktails and an Away Spa Bar, the first full-service bar located inside a W Away Spa.

The property includes more than 10,225 square feet of flexible event space, each area featuring floor-to-ceiling windows, tropical vibes with bold splashes of color, and access to the Lawn, an adjacent outdoor space.

Nearby Playa Flamingo offers horseback riding, and ATV and catamaran rides, as well as fishing, snorkeling and jungle exploration by foot. In the dry season, December through April, Costa Rica is an ideal spot to witness the humpback-whale migration and turtle nesting along the nearby beaches.
