With more than 180 educational and networking events and more than 3,000 exhibitors, the annual agenda at IMEX America already is packed. If you're an incentive travel professional attending this year's show, however, you might want to make room in your busy schedule for just one more commitment: The Society for Incentive Travel Excellence will host an exam for its new Certified Incentive Travel Professional certification on "Smart Monday," an annual day of education that takes place immediately prior to IMEX America, it announced today.

Introduced in April, the CITP certification was created to standardize and verify incentive travel professionals' skills while promoting professionalism across the industry. It is available to incentive travel professionals who have at least the past 12 consecutive months and a total of five years' experience in the incentive travel industry, or three years' experience and SITE's Certified Incentive Specialist [https://www.siteglobal.com/page/cis-certification] designation. In addition, all candidates must have completed 40 hours of professional development activities during the past five years, and must pass a two-hour examination designed to test their professional knowledge of the major processes associated with incentive travel sales, design and management.

The CITP exam -- which has 80 questions -- officially debuted last month at IMEX in Frankfurt; since then, more than 25 incentive travel professionals have earned their CITP designation.

To help CITP candidates prepare for the examination, SITE is offering an Online Certification Preparation Course consisting of nine modules on topic areas mapped to the CITP Exam Content Outline. Worth 3.5 hours of continuing education credits, the modules can be applied to the 10 hours of SITE education required to qualify for the CITP exam. The course is available to SITE members for $395 and to nonmembers for $495.

IMEX America takes places Oct. 16-18 in Las Vegas. The CITP exam will be offered in two sittings -- 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. -- on Oct. 15. Candidates can register for the exam on SITE's website.
