At the opening of the American Society of Association Executives' annual Springtime Expo, the organization announced a new, two-day, interactive event for associations and industry partners, aiming to help participants find solutions to shared challenges. The Xperience Design Project will take place May 24-25, 2017, at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center at National Harbor, Md., and will replace Springtime, which was first held in 1977.
"We are excited about XDP because it will be a game changer for the association industry," said John H. Graham, IV, FASAE, CAE, president and CEO of the organization. "It will provide attendees and industry partners the opportunity to discuss topics together, and create innovative and effective solutions. The event will be 100 percent interactive, allow for one-on-one conversations and build important relationships, so our members and industry partners can elevate how they conduct business as well as implement their meetings."
On the first day, "The Lab" will offer six key topic areas around meeting trends: location; technology; experience strategy, design and production; performance metrics and ROI; marketing, and curriculum. On the second day, findings from day one will be presented in a TED-style recap, and attendees will participate the Business Exchange, one-on-one conversations with industry partners. The cost for association executives is $495; organizations that send three staff members will pay $1,000.
The new program was developed with design partner 360 Live Media. Among the goals for the event, ASAE hopes to reach a broader audience and increase the value of the association for industry partners and to help retain members. Following XDP, a guide or whitepaper will recap topics, ideas and solutions for the association community.
