The APEX Standards Committee of the Convention Industry Council, the umbrella organization for 33 meetings industry organizations, has released the "RFP Strategy Guide on Event Internet and Communications," complete with a fill-in Excel resource checklist. The guide aims to help industry professionals in their conversations with venues for their events' wired and wireless needs.

"As the preeminent organization for the meetings, conventions and exhibitions industry, the Convention Industry Council understands that the needs of meeting and event professionals are ever-changing," said Karen Kotowski, CMP, CAE, CEO of the organization. "It's our duty to adapt to those changes and provide resources to help planners efficiently execute and excel in their professional lives."

John Rissi, senior vice president of PSAV and chair of the APEX Standards Committee, added: "This helps industry professionals better understand bandwidth requirements and determine their best approach to meeting connectivity. The guide shows you what to ask venues and even includes a strategy to ensure transparency while negotiating price. It's a great addition to APEX's growing list of resources."

Contributors to the guide were Rissi; Matt Harvey, vice president, client network services at PSAV; Michael Owen, managing partner at EventGenuity; independent planner MaryAnne Bobrow, CMP, CAE, CMM, CHE; and Mariela Mcilwraith, CMP, CAE, president of the sustainable-events firm Meeting Change.
