Destination Marketing Association International has unveiled the 2017 version of its event impact calculator, a tool that collects specific information to help destination marketing organizations determine policy and strategy. The calculator was originally launched for meetings and events in 2011, and was expanded to include sports in 2013 and festivals in 2016. Since its inception, 200 U.S. and global DMOs -- including the newest, the Utah Valley Convention & Visitors Bureau -- have signed up for the tool to collect various data and determine the ROI of events; more than 100,000 events have been analyzed  since 2011.

The newest version of the calculator offers:
• Updated per-diem attendee spending by event type and size of city;
• Updated destination-level data on costs by sector (lodging, food and beverage, transportation, and business services) to reflect current market pricing;
• New and expanded data on event-organizer and exhibitor spending; and
• Additional meeting-segment analysis for government, corporate, association, and social, military, education, religious and fraternal (SMERF) events.
