Melissa Cherry has joined Destination Marketing Association International as chief marketing officer and Nina Winston has been appointed executive vice president, membership and partner relations. Both positions are newly created at the association. Cherry and Winston join DMAI from Choose Chicago, joining their former boss, DMAI's new CEO, Don Welch.
Cherry will lead the organization's overall marketing and communications plan, including the implementation of strategies to support a core set of goals established by Welsh, DMAI's board of directors and the board of DMAI's Destination & Travel Foundation. Cherry's immediate priorities include a "listening tour" with members and partners and the execution of DMAI's revamped program for its annual convention, taking place in Minneapolis, Aug. 1-4.
Winston will be responsible for updating DMAI's membership resources and deliverables to reflect its mission and goals, and to deliver value and satisfaction for new and existing members. She also will focus on the development and growth of key sponsorships and partnerships within the private sector.
"I had the distinct pleasure of working with Melissa and Nina while in Chicago," said Welsh, who joined the association in early April. "DMAI is fortunate to have their experience and leadership, as they both clearly understand the opportunities and challenges of a DMO. The entire DMAI team will continue to spearhead the great work that the boards have already implemented. Exciting times are ahead."
