Elliott Ferguson, president and CEO of Destination DC, the official convention and tourism corporation for Washington, D.C., will become the chair of the board of the U.S. Travel Association in March of 2019. Currently first vice chair of  U.S. Travel, Ferguson will take over from Geoff Ballotti, president and CEO of the Wyndham Hotel Group. This move will be voted on U.S. Travel's board of directors at its spring 2019 meeting.

Under Ferguson's tutelage, Destination DC has experienced unprecedented growth. Last year, there were 20.8 million domestic visitors, up 4.2 percent over 2016 according to DK Shifflet, a travel research and consulting company.

A 26-year veteran of the travel and hospitality industry, Ferguson oversees Destination DC's convention and tourism sales, marketing, finance, and business development operations.

He began his tenure with Destination DC in 2001 as senior vice president of convention sales and services and has served as president and CEO of Destination DC since 2009. Prior to working at Destination DC, he served as vice president of sales at the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau. He has also held the position of director of sales for both the Atlanta VCB and Georgia's Visit Savannah.
