During its annual convention this week in Anaheim, Calif., Destinations International announced new strategic partnerships with the National Association of Sports Commissions and the International Association of Venue Managers. The two ventures will expand the offerings of DI's Economic Impact Calculator, a tool designed to quantify the economic importance of events to their destinations.
DI's partnership with IAVM enables convention and visitor bureaus and convention centers to share economic data for the meetings and events that take place in a destination via a new module for the Event Impact Calculator, which will track the impact of local and public events. The module will be launched this fall.
"Both Destinations International and IAVM share the vision that a destination should be able to share economic data between the destination organization and the convention center, in order to publish the most accurate and complete data possible for an event," remarked Tammy Blount-Canavan, president and CEO of the Monterey County Convention and Visitors Bureau and chair of DI.
"Destinations International is pleased to take this bold step for our industry in partnership with IAVM," said Don Welsh, DI's president and CEO. "The expansion of [the calulator's] access is part of our overall strategy of further establishing standardized reporting on the impact of meetings and events for our industry."

"Coordinating economic impact reports with DMOs not only unifies stakeholder data, it becomes a platform for greater coordinated efforts in bringing additional business to their communities."
DI's partnership with the NASC will provide members with the opportunity to subscribe to the Event Impact Calculator's sports module in communities where CVBs don't already have access to the sports module. According to Blount-Canavan, the partnership will deliver consistent reporting in the industry and allow destination organizations and sports commissions to work together more closely.
