The first North American Meetings Industry Day takes place this Thursday, April 16. Spearheaded by the Meetings Mean Business Coalition and its co-chairs, Michael Dominguez, senior vice president of corporate sales at MGM Resorts International, and David Peckinpaugh, president of Maritz Travel, the day aims to bring together meeting professionals to showcase the value of the work they do. NAMID was inspired by the Canadian National Meetings Industry Day, created 20 years ago by the Canadian Chapters of Meeting Professionals International.

Events are scheduled around the United States and in Canada and Mexico, including a panel discussion on "Meetings Mean Business" being held by MPI's British Columbia chapter; a full morning of events offered by the MPI Toronto chapter; a symposium on tourism and security organized by the secretary of tourism of the state of Jalisco, Mexico, and the Convention Bureau of Puerto Vallarta; the Spring Fling and Industry Networking Event being hosted by the Arizona Chapter of the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International; and "Brains, Body, Being," held by the DC/Baltimore Branch of the Senior Planners Industry Network.
