Meeting Professionals International this week has announced a pair of initiatives to boost its educational offerings. First, the organization has tapped its MPI Mexico Chapter to be an authorized training partner for the MPI Academy, a first-of-its-kind partnership. The chapter will help deliver both in-person and online education that will launch in the first half of 2019.
MPI and the MPI Mexico Chapter previously collaborated on a research initiative to gauge the educational needs of meeting professionals in Mexico, which led to the development of the new training partnership. The research revealed the need for relevant certificate-based programs delivered locally and in Spanish. The research also identified topics of interest among local meeting professionals, including strategy and innovation, event design, executive education and event production.
"Our new partnership with the MPI Mexico Chapter will be a game-changer in advancing the event-planning profession in the region, and we believe it will serve as a successful blueprint for expanding our global reach in other geographies as well," said Melissa Majors, director of the MPI Academy. "We couldn't be more delighted to partner with such an incredibly capable and driven team of industry professionals."
In other MPI news, the organization will now offer courses from the University of Virginia Darden Executive Education's Specialization in Design Thinking and Innovation program to the MPI community at discounted rates. The online, hands-on training courses provide leadership tools and teach design thinking.
The five-week courses, which begin in September, include Design Thinking Part I: Insights to Inspiration; Design Thinking Part II: Ideas to Action; Discovery Tools, and Creating the Innovative Workplace. Programs incorporate insights from the Batten Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and are taught by Darden's faculty. Mentors will facilitate conversations, and participants will give and receive feedback through online discussions. Students will receive a certificate of completion from Darden, and those who take all four trainings will earn Darden's Specialization in Design Thinking and Innovation.
The cost for members of the MPI community will be $395 for each individual course; $790 for the Design Thinking Part I and II bundle; and $1,600 for all four courses. The special rates, available through the MPI Academy, are for both MPI members and nonmembers. Click here for more information and to register with the MPI discount.
