At the World Education Congress, currently being held at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Meeting Professionals International has hired Pierre Fernandez as its senior director of European operations. About 10 years ago, Fernandez helped found MPI's France Chapter, now the France-Switzerland Chapter. He has held positions with the Four Seasons Resort Provence, Disneyland Paris Business Solutions and the InterContinental Carlton Hotels in Luxembourg and Cannes. In his new position, Fernandez will oversee MPI's European membership, chapter relations, sales and strategic partnerships.
MPI also announced a partnership with the Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau, in order to support the growing meetings industry in the country. In 2012, Thailand hosted 7,382 events and welcomed more than 895,000 attendees. This year, the country is expected to welcome approximately 940,000 attendees, generating expected revenues of US$2.93 billion. The WEC, which has welcomed more than 300 hosted buyers, wraps up Tuesday; full registration numbers will be available after the event's conclusion.
