Meeting Professionals International and the Meetings Mean Business Coalition together will present a free, 12-hour live stream of many Global Meetings Industry Day events taking place around the world on April 12. The GMID Virtual Event begins at 6 a.m. CDT with gatherings taking place in Europe, and concludes at 6 p.m. CDT with broadcasts from North America.
The purpose of GMID is to convene leaders from across the industry to show the media, elected officials and the general public how meetings foster strong relationships, drive positive outcomes and support vibrant communities. More than 120 events were held across six continents in 2017. This year's tagline is "Real results, real impact, all around the world."

GMID began as Canadian Meetings Industry Day, a longstanding annual tradition developed by the MPI chapter in Canada that grew into 2015's North American Meetings Industry Day. In 2016, the first global expansion of this initiative was launched.

MPI and MMBC hope the live-streaming will demonstrate the power, reach and scale of the global meetings industry; it will feature interviews with industry leaders, behind-the-scenes content, CMP-eligible educational sessions and more. The GMID Virtual Event is sponsored by the Mexico Tourism Board.

Virtual participants must register to view the broadcast. Many local events for attending in person, taking place from Asia to Mexico to the United States, already are on the schedule, and more are expected to be added over the next few weeks.
