Meeting Professionals International's annual World Education Congress gets going tonight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and runs through Thursday, June 22. Alternative-medicine and meditation guru Deepak Chopra will headline the opening general session.

Education sessions at the WEC will fall into eight focus areas: event marketing; event operations; legal procurement and compliance; personal and career development; security and risk management; technology and big data; transforming yourself from planner to producer; and transforming yourself from supplier to partner. M&C will be participating in (and tweeting from) one of the MPI Academy's preconference sessions, the new Women in Leadership and Emergency Preparedness for Meetings and Events courses. The two other preconference courses are Healthcare Meeting Compliance Certificate (HMCC), CMP Master Class; and Basics Boot Camp: Meeting Fundamentals.

"WEC 2017 will cover timely and relevant issues that matter to our industry, from security and crisis management to the latest engagement techniques that foster learning," said Paul Van Deventer, MPI president and CEO. "We have designed the program to stimulate the senses and inspire attendees to think beyond the ballroom."

Tonight's lineup of keynote speakers also includes designer Bruce Mau, author and former stand-up comedian Ron Tite and entrepreneur Sarah Prevette. Earvin "Magic" Johnson, L.A. Lakers basketball legend, will speak during the networking lunch on Wednesday.
