The Meetings Mean Business Coalition, the cross-industry communications and advocacy initiative, has named Paul Van Deventer, president and CEO of Meeting Professionals International, as co-chair effective January 2017. Van Deventer takes the two-year seat previously held by Michael Dominguez, chief sales officer of MGM Resorts International, and will work with fellow co-chair Richard Harper, executive vice president, HelmsBriscoe.
"Paul is already an active coalition member, and I am thrilled to work alongside him next year as we continue to expand MMB's reach and influence," said Harper. "He is the first MMB co-chair who leads a meeting professionals organization, and his insights and experience will help us spread the MMB message to a larger audience in the coming years."
MMB's mission is to spread the message of the meetings industry's value around the world. The co-chairs will host the second annual Global Meetings Industry Day in spring 2017, and will continue building awareness and driving engagement with key stakeholders, including business leaders, policymakers and the media. They also will work with the coalition's new Meeting Planners Task Force to recruit powerful voices as advocates for the industry.
"I'm very excited to join the coalition as co-chair and continue the great work done by Michael and Richard," said Van Deventer. "I'm confident that MMB will keep advocating for the industry with one strong, united voice."
