Carol McGury, left, SmithBucklin's executive vice president of event and education services, has been selected by her peers to be chair-elect of the Professional Convention Management Association's Education Foundation board of trustees.

Established in 1985, the PCMA Education Foundation was created to advance the meeting profession through scholarships, research, education and special projects. McGury - who joined SmithBucklin, the association management and services company, in 1988 and oversees all its conference, convention, trade-show and event-management service offerings - will join its board of trustees immediately following PCMA's Convening Leaders annual meeting, which will take place Jan. 7-10, 2018, in Nashville.

"I am honored by this leadership opportunity with the PCMA Education Foundation," said McGury, who also serves on the Marriott Hotel Advisory Board and the Anaheim Advisory Board, and is co-chair of INCON, an international partnership of association and event-management companies. "I look forward to collaborating on strategy and new initiatives with the board and contributing meaningfully to the future endeavors of the foundation."

Joining McGury on the foundation's 2018 board of trustees are David Peckinpaugh, president of Maritz Global Events, who will serve as president; VRS Valerie Sumner, principal of VRS Meetings and Events, who will serve as secretary-treasurer. The following trustees also were appointed: Douglas Bennett, senior vice president of convention development, Louisville Convention and Visitors Bureau; Amy Calvert, senior vice president, convention sales and services, Visit Baltimore; Susan Euritt, principal, Ruckus Strategic Partnership Consulting; Tony Lorenz, CEO, AlliedPRA; Charles Starks, president and CEO, Music City Center; and Heidi Welker, senior vice president, business development and industry partnerships, Freeman Audiovisual Canada.

Remaining on the board are: Phillip Jones, president and CEO, Visit Dallas, who will serve as immediate past chair; Oscar Cerezales, CEO, Asia Pacific, MCI Singapore; Jerry Cito, senior vice president of convention development, NYC & Co.; Derrick Johnson, director of meetings, the Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers; Roberta Kravitz, executive director, International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine; Angie Ranalli, vice president of sales, Midwest region, San Diego Tourism Authority; and Tammy Routh, vice president of global sales, Marriott International.

Finally, PCMA has appointed the following individuals to serve alongside their elected colleagues: Kristin Mirabal, president, Global Event Strategic Solutions; William Reed, senior director of meetings and community engagement, American Society of Hematology; Claire Smith, vice president of sales and marketing, Vancouver Convention Centre, who will serve as PCMA chair; and Gregory O'Dell, president and CEO, Events DC, who will serve as PCMA chair-elect.
