U.S. Travel Association president and CEO Roger Dow issued the following statement on news that president-elect Donald Trump will nominate Wilbur Ross to lead the U.S. Department of Commerce:

The U.S. travel community welcomes the selection of Wilbur Ross as our nation's next secretary of commerce. Mr. Ross brings with him decades of business experience and a deep understanding of multiple industries that we are confident will shape sound economic policies. His longtime focus on increasing U.S. exports aligns perfectly with the goals of our industry, which already accounts for 10 percent of all U.S. exports and is brimming with potential to build on that record.

We are also heartily encouraged by president-elect Trump's selection of Chicago Cubs co-owner Todd Ricketts for the job of deputy secretary. Mr. Ricketts' longtime involvement with both tourism and professional sports evinces a deep understanding of travel and hospitality's impact on local and national economies.

"We look forward to working with both Mr. Ross and Mr. Ricketts on growing America's competitiveness in the global tourism marketplace by strengthening Brand USA and preserving our Open Skies agreements, and on implementing policies that boost America as an attractive destination for business and leisure.
