At the current IMEX taking place in Frankfurt, Germany, through Thursday, the German Convention Bureau released the results of the 2009 Meeting & Event Barometer, the fourth annual survey on Germany's meetings and events market. A total of 2.46 million events took place in 2009 (down 10.9 percent from 2008), attended by 302 million people (down 4.8 percent). International attendees accounted for a consistent 5.5 percent of attendees. Among suppliers, the global economic crisis affected meeting hotels most severely, with the number of events hosted down 14.9 percent in 2009 over the previous year. Convention centers saw event volume dip slightly by 1.5 percent, while special-event venues experienced a 5.3 percent decline. About half of those surveyed believe business already is rebounding.
