London Technology Week, a collection of more than 200 independently run events in the high-tech field, kicks off today in the British capital. The event was spearheaded by London & Partners, the city's destination marketing organization, in collaboration with organizer UBM Live, and partners ExCeL London and Tech London Advocates. More than 30,000 tech entrepreneurs, investors, business leaders and developers from around the world will hear firsthand from some of the world's biggest tech companies, including Microsoft, Samsung, Google and Eventbrite. A London & Partners study, conducted by Oxford Economics and released this week, reveals that London's digital tech sector is expected to grow by 5.1 percent per year, creating an additional $16 billion of economic activity and 46,000 new jobs in the capital.
