Research announced last week at the China Incentive, Business Travel and Meetings Exhibition in Beijing shows a positive outlook for the meetings industry and named China as the most popular Asian country for meetings, cited by 62 precent of all participants as their most used destination in the region. Hong Kong and Thailand followed with 45.5 percent and 35.9 percent, respectively. More than 70 percent of the buyers surveyed also reported they will be exploring new destinations in the near future, while only 6 percent said they will be considering fewer new destinations. The results also show 62 percent of buyers plan to hold more events in the next 12 months vs. the previous 12 months, while 25 percent said the number of events they organize will stay the same, showing some optimism for the industry in the near future. For the Reed Travel Exhibitions study, 579 meetings industry professionals (332 buyers and 247 suppliers) responded, of whom 77 percent were from Asia and 23 percent were based outside the region but organized events in Asia.
