The 236-room Cedar Rapids (Iowa) Crowne Plaza Hotel will close in February, as the city begins a plan to reinvent the property and the attached U.S. Cellular Center. To be completed in February 2013, the $100 million project will yield the Cedar Rapids Convention Complex, which will feature 68,000 square feet of exhibit space, 52,500 square feet of ballroom space and 38,600 square feet of meeting space. The total meeting space has yet to be determined. The renovated hotel will have 236 guest rooms; its 25,000 square feet of meeting space will be redone and 18,000 square feet will be added, for a total of 43,000 square feet of meeting space.
