Hawaii tourism officials are coming closer to renewing SMG Hawaii's $14 million annual contract to manage, market and operate the Hawaii Convention Center, despite the management company's failure to meet sales benchmarks in 2010. SMG, which manages 220 facilities worldwide, has operated Hawaii's facility since it opened in 1998; the current contract is scheduled to expire at the end of June, according to Pacific Business News. The Hawaii CVB was not available for comment.
