The consolidation of two Houston entities -- the Convention and Entertainment Facilities Department and the Houston Convention Center Hotel Corp. -- will create the "quasi-public" Houston First Corp., which will oversee the George R. Brown Convention Center as of July 1. Also falling under the direction of the new organization will be the city's Wortham Theater Center, the Jones Hall for the Performing Arts, Jones Plaza, the Miller Outdoor Theatre, Sesquicentennial Park, and other parks and performing-arts facilities. No management changes will be made at the venues themselves; the Houston First board of directors "will look for opportunities to fine-tune operations," according to Richard J. Campo, chair of the nine-member board and chairman/CEO of the Houston-based Camden Property Trust. Dawn Ullrich, current director of the CEFD, will be president of the board.
