In April, the National Basketball Association's Milwaukee Bucks announced a plan to build a new $500 million arena and use an another $500 million for additional developments in the city's Park East corridor. However, that plan would use Milwauke County hotel, restaurant and car-rental taxes to finance the project, delaying the use of those funds for a downtown convention center expansion, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The financing plan, which would require the district to provide $93 million of the $250 million public share of the arena's costs, still needs approval from the state legislature and common council.
