The Pasadena Convention Center was awarded LEED Gold Certification by the United States Green Building Council after undergoing a $150 million expansion that was completed in February 2009. Only the third U.S. convention center to earn a Gold designation, the venue, in Los Angeles County, adhered to green standards for energy use, lighting, water and material use, among other factors. The expansion project added a 55,000-square-foot exhibit hall, a 25,000-square-foot ballroom, 25,000 square feet of prefunction space, a 22,000-square-foot outdoor plaza and administrative offices.
