Plans for a $325 million transformation of the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio have been released. About 835,000 gross square feet will be added and 78,000 square feet of existing space will be renovated. The work, which will take place while the center remains operational, will be completed in 2016. Among the upgrades, about 260,000 square feet of new exhibit space will be added, for a total of more than 500,000 square feet of contiguous exhibit space; a new 54,000-square-foot ballroom will be built; an outdoor balcony will wrap around the building; entrances will be redone, and the kitchen will be upgraded. Keeping sustainability in mind, the project is aiming for Silver LEED certification.
