Interstate Hotels & Resorts, which operates the Oakland (Calif.) Convention Center, has started an $8 million renovation of the 64,000-square-foot facility. Energy management systems will be upgraded, aiming the center toward LEED Silver certification; design and technology upgrades also will take place. Funding for the project comes from the city's redevelopment fund.
