The Statue of Liberty and Liberty Island, off-limits to visitors since Hurricane Sandy hit last fall, will reopen to the public July 4. Though the statue was unharmed by the storm,  the Island's utilities, backup generator and power systems were destroyed, and its passenger and auxiliary docks and pathways were severely damaged. Continuing repairs will keep the Ellis Island Immigration Museum closed through the end of the year.
