Telecommunications giant Cisco announced Thursday that it intends to acquire Norwegian video communications provider Tandberg for approximately $3 billion. The deal is expected to close in the first half of 2010 and is subject to closing conditions and regulatory approvals. Cisco plans to integrate Tandberg's video endpoints and network infrastructure, which will enable intercompany and multivendor operation among video-communication systems. When the deal closes, Tandberg CEO Fredrik Halvorsen will lead Cisco's new TelePresence Technology Group.
