Crowd Mics, an app that turns attendees' smartphones into event microphones, was recognized for the second straight year at IMEX America. The innovative app took home the Event Technology of the Year award, selected by a jury of industry personalities, media representatives and a venture capitalist. The award was presented at the Palazzo Las Vegas this week during IMEX America.

Last year, Crowd Mics was a finalist and an audience favorite of the event-tech start-up competition at IMEX America. Both competitions were founded by Julius Solaris of the Event Manager Blog in collaboration with IMEX America. The Event Technology of the Year award is open to established companies as well as start-ups.

Finalists in the inaugural Event Technology of the Year awards included Catchbox, a wireless microphone in a soft box that the audience can throw around; DoubleDutch, an event app developer focused on real-time attendee analytics; Glisser, which makes interactive presentation software, and Social Tables, event-planning software for diagramming, seating and check-in. The crowd favorite this year, which garnered more than 1,500 votes, was Weavent, which offers on-site Wi-Fi and mobile app solutions.

The winner of the Event Technology of the Year award receives prizes valued at $15,000.
