Discover Colorado, a unique professional networking and education opportunity in the state's capital, kicks off Sunday, July 23, at the 1,231-room Sheraton Denver Downtown. The event, hosted by Northstar Meetings Group, will welcome more than 80 meeting planner professionals and industry suppliers for three days of networking, targeted education and local activities. Meeting professionals will have the opportunity to connect with representatives from hotels, destination marketing organizations, destination management companies and various event venues from the state, including Visit Denver, Vail Resorts and Destination Colorado.
Two educational sessions, which are approved for CMP credits, will be part of the agenda. The first, an energetic and informative hour called "Ask the Attorney," will feature M&C's longtime legal columnist, Jonathan Howe, taking questions from the audience. Potential topics to be covered include the changing nature of attrition and cancellation clauses; how to cover safety and security in event contracts; which current incidents do or don't fall under force majeure clauses, and more. Howe's latest column, "Dealing With Liquidated Damages," gives tips on how to ease or avoid penalties with proper contract language.
Tuesday's session will feature Steve Jones, the author of "Brand Like a Rock Star" and "Start You Up: Rock Star Secrets to Unleash Your Personal Brand and Set Your Career on Fire." He will use his 30 years  in the music business to share his expertise in marketing, creativity and customer service. Jones presents a fast-paced session, bringing participants backstage to discover the core marketing lessons of rock legends and reveal how to immediately apply them to meetings and events. He uses music, videos and colorful stories to demonstrate his points in this energetic presentation. Jones is one of the many top-notch presenters planners can find through the Goodman Speakers Bureau [].
Discover Colorado will feature more than 665 one-on-one meetings between meeting professionals and supplier representatives, as planners seek the best supplier partners and hosts in Colorado for their events.  Participants also will get to see Denver's up-and-coming River North neighborhood on the eTuk RiNo Tour.
