 Requests for meeting proposals are now exceeding prerecession levels, according to the Active Network's Business Solutions Group. That said, based on the company's study, Event Trends: 2008-2012, companies have cut back in order to meet stricter cost controls. Overall, Active clients are organizing smaller meetings, often with less than 50 attendees; shorter meetings, reducing them to just one day; and planning with less lead time. In the first 10 months of 2012, electronic RFPs sent through the Active  platform for the cities of Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York and Orlando surpassed 2008 levels by 6 percent. Total eRFP volume in the same period eclipsed 2009's low by 46 percent. Half of the eRFPs received in 2012 were for meetings of less than 50 people, a 5 percent increase over 2008 in terms of small meetings. Meanwhile eRFP volumes for larger meetings (51 to 250 attendees) fell a few percentage points vs. 2008. Same-day and one-day meetings now account for 35 percent of ACTIVE's eRFPs, up 14 percent from 2008. And 30 percent of eRFPs sent in the first 10 months of 2012 were for meetings within 60 days, representing a 27 percent increase over 2008 totals.
