A new survey from E-proDirect, which provides e-mail marketing solutions for the meetings and conventions, shows 62 percent of 1,100 meeting professionals surveyed expect to plan the same number of events in 2013 as they did in 2012, while 27 percent said the number of events they work on will increase.

Other highlights of the survey:

• While online event management software is being used by 14 percent of respondents, 70 percent still prefer to contact hotels directly when submitting an RFP.

• Group booking windows are beginning to extend beyond the six to eight weeks of the recent past, as 53 percent of those surveyed said their average lead time for selecting a venue had increased to three to six months, while 42 percent averaged seven to 12 months.

• Concerning the top concessions planners are asking for when selecting a meeting facility, 81 percent said they would give stronger consideration to hotels that offered free Wi-Fi in guest rooms, common areas and meeting rooms. Also, 82 percent said they look for complimentary meeting room rental and 74 percent ask for a discount on food and beverage.
