Tory Enriquez 
Director of Sales and Marketing, The Woodlands (Texas) Resort & Conference Center

If Tory Enriquez likes to promote teamwork in her department at The Woodlands Resort, where she's worked since 2006, it's because she knows well the power of people pulling together. A National Collegiate Athletic Association scholarship recipient, she was part of Texas A&M's national championship softball team in 1987. Enriquez recently made some time in her busy day to chat with M&C.        

How awesome is it to be a champion athlete? Our championship year gave us such a feeling of achievement, it was truly amazing. In fact, I'm still in touch with my teammates. We're friends for life.

What lessons do you apply from those days to your job today?
It really is all about teamwork. Of course it starts with hiring the right people, which we've done. And I've found that the keys to keeping the troops happy and productive are to serve as a mentor as well as a manager, to be sensitive to individual personalities, to promote an atmosphere where people feel free to contribute their ideas -- and to have fun doing it.

What do planners like best about The Woodlands? Our property is known for its tranquil environment and beautiful setting. We have hundreds of miles of bicycle paths to let guests really immerse themselves in the beauty. We also offer 440 guest rooms, 60,000 square feet of meeting space and everything you'd expect from an IACC-approved conference center.

How do you spend your spare time? My husband and I are raising 19-month-old triplets -- two identical-twin boys and a girl -- so there's never a dull moment. I still work out, and of course we have season tickets to all A&M home games.

Joe Nahas has been named director of sales for the Florida market for Krisam Group, an organization representing more than 250 independent member hotels worldwide. In addition, Alyssa Maselli has been hired as national sales manager for Krisam's New York City office.
