ICOMEX drew more than 6,000 attendees to its sixth and final hosted-buyer event in Mexico City last month, according to statistics released this week by the show's owner, Reed Travel Exhibitions. Among the attendees were 168 international and 177 domestic hosted buyers, along with more than 380 exhibitors. The event was held at Centro Banamex, covering nearly 54,000 square feet of exhibit space.
As announced at the event, Reed is rebranding the show as IBTM Latin America. Reed acquired ICOMEX in November 2014 and is now more tightly integrating the program into its IBTM portfolio. "Being part of the IBTM portfolio will provide the event with a major boost and an international presence in the MICE industry," explained show director David Hidalgo, "offering new opportunities for the international database of meeting planners seeking new business."

Executives in the Latin American tourism industry heralded the event's success and welcomed the rebranding and transition. "Mexico has become a country of reference for convention tourism," noted Ricardo Baquerizo, CEO of the International Association of Exhibitions in Latin America. "However, to continue growing, it is essential to continue to professionalize this sector."
