Reed Travel Exhibitions has named a new director for IBTM World, just six weeks before this year's edition of the travel and meetings industry event takes place. The IBTM team has tapped industry vet David Thompson for the post. Thompson most recently had been managing the security portfolio of shows for Clarion Events in the United Kingdom, and had previously worked for Reed as a sales director in 2013.
Former IBTM World director and senior exhibitions director for the IBTM Events portfolio Graeme Barnett left Reed at the end of May this year, and the post has been open since then.

Thompson has been working in the industry for 14 years, producing events for Haymarket Exhibitions, BBC, Informa and Daily Mail Group, in addition to Clarion. He has produced conferences and exhibitions throughout Europe, the Middle East and the United States. The security-events portfolio he headed up at Clarion hosted more than 15,000 attendees each year, from more than 100 countries.

"We are delighted to have David join us as exhibition director for IBTM World," said Shane Hannam, IBTM events portfolio director. "David has an excellent track record of delivering commercially successful customer-focused events, and I'm excited to work alongside him as we continue to build on the success of last year's record-breaking event."

Thompson is being thrown into the thick of things as the IBTM team readies for the 2018 show. "With the event now just six weeks away, I'll be supporting the team as they reach the climax of the event cycle and will be immersing myself in the sector to engage with as many of the stakeholders as possible," he commented. "I am keen to bring my global experience and passion for innovation in events to the role, and I'm excited about building for the future."

IBTM World will take place Nov. 27-29 at Fira Gran Via in Barcelona, Spain. About 3,000 exhibiting companies are expected, representing more than 150 countries, along with more than 3,500 buyers and thousands more visitors to the show.
