Shorter online attention spans, growing social consciousness and increasing diversity are among the trends that will shape meetings and events in 2014, according to the IMEX Group, which organizes the IMEX Frankfurt and IMEX America trade shows. The seven trends the organization identified: Show planners will need to change online content to accommodate shorter attention spans; more employers will try to make their workplaces "happier" for staff; the use of technology will continue to increase; the use of social media will continue to increase; the industry will see more volunteerism to benefit local communities; workplaces will continue to diversify (racially, ethnically and generationally), and more firms will study the economic impact of their meetings and events.
