The average travel manager base salary increased by 3.6 percent over last year, according to a recent survey of 465 travel buyers by the Global Business Travel Association. The average base salary among respondents was $93,937, while more than two-thirds of those surveyed (69 percent) received an annual bonus, which averaged $13,845. Nearly two-thirds (63 percent) said they were either very satisfied or satisfied with their compensation. The average compensation generally was tied to the total domestic travel spend of the employing company: The average base salary for employees of firms that spend less than $2.5 million annually was $76,080, while the average for companies that spend more than $10 million a year was $108,749. Those respondents with higher-level titles and higher domestic travel spend were more likely to be members of GBTA or a GBTA chapter, according to the survey.
