Unite Here Local 2 and the 1,908-room Hilton San Francisco Union Square, the city's largest property, have signed a five-year agreement five months before the current collective bargaining agreement was set to expire. The new contract runs from Aug. 14, 2013, through Aug. 13, 2018. The hotel's workers ratified the agreement on March 15. “Thank you to the Hilton San Francisco Union Square and Unite Here Local 2 for coming to this agreement, setting a standard for our city’s hotel industry, keeping San Francisco’s economy vital and supporting working families in the Bay Area,” said San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee. The contract settlement improves job security and provides wage increases while securing medical benefits and pensions. “By avoiding the kind of protracted labor disputes we’ve seen in years past, our union can now turn our attention to bringing nonunion workers up to the Hilton standard,” said Mike Casey, president of Local 2.
