Taxes and fees on travel-related services impose an average increased cost to visitors of 57 percent over general sales tax, according to the GBTA Foundation, the Global Business Travel Association's research arm. Furthermore, the taxes often fund projects that are unrelated to travel. The cities with the highest and lowest total taxes are listed below; tax estimates are based on an average daily room rate of $103.45, an average daily car rental rate of $55.99 and average daily meal cost of $91.22.
