Layton, Utah
New CVB Forms
With work under way on the Davis County Conference Center here, county officials formed a convention and visitors bureau. A board was nominated in August for the new Davis Area Convention & Visitors Bureau. When the center opens in Layton in July 2004, it will offer 41,000 square feet of function space. An attached Hilton Garden Inn with 150 rooms also is being built and will open concurrently with the center.

Louisville, Ky.
Wing C Under Way
Work began in September on the new South Wing C at the Kentucky Fair & Exposition Center. This expansion will add 237,000 square feet of meeting and exhibit space to the facility upon its completion in October 2005. When the project is finished, the center will offer a total of 425,700 square feet of exhibit space. Also coming in 2005 is the new Wyndham Louisville International Airport hotel, which will offer 225 guest rooms and some 12,000 square feet of meeting space.

AZ, Phoenix
The new Hilton Garden Inn Phoenix Midtown made its debut in August. The 156-room hotel has 7,500 square feet of meeting space and is surrounded by nearly one million square feet of retail and office space.

DC, Washington
San Francisco-based Kimpton Hotel & Restaurant Group, LLC, assumed management of the 139-room Hotel George, following a change in ownership. The boutique property has 2,000 square feet of meeting space and a 180-seat French restaurant.

FL, Miami Beach
The third in Ritz-Carlton’s trio of South Florida properties, the Ritz-Carlton, South Beach, will open next month. The hotel is housed in a restored art deco building and will offer 375 guest rooms and 20,000 square feet of meeting space, along with a 13,000-square-foot spa.

MI, Bay Harbor
Next month, The Inn at Bay Harbor becomes The Inn at Bay HarborA Renaissance Resort. The property, along Michigan’s Little Traverse Bay, offers 85 suites and 24 cottages. For groups, the inn has 11,000 square feet of combined indoor and outdoor meeting space.

LIVING LODGE. A new retreat for VIPs, the Lodge at Keyah Grande, debuted in August. Eight suites host up to 16, while Colorado’s San Juan Mountains offer privacy and views. The conference room seats up to 24; it has high-speed Internet access and a touch-activated screen for presentations. After meeting, guests can unwind around the distinctive outdoor fire pit. MO, St. Charles

Ground was broken on the new Embassy Suites Hotel
St. Charles in September,  adjacent to the site on which the new St. Charles Convention Center will be built. The $36 million hotel will open in January 2005 with 265 guest rooms and 5,200 square feet of meeting space.

MO, Springfield
The Holiday Inn Springfield University Plaza Hotel and Convention Center became the University Plaza Hotel and Convention Center in October. The 271-room property, which has approximately 103,000 square feet of meeting space, including 69,000 square feet of exhibit space, wrapped up a $5 million renovation in September.

PA, Hershey
Hershey Resorts will begin a $2 million renovation to the Hotel Hershey in January. The project includes refurbishment of 120 of the property’s 234 guest rooms, which will be completed by March 2004. For groups, the hotel offers 23,500 square feet of meeting space.

VA, Richmond
The former Hilton Richmond Airport became the Doubletree Hotel Richmond Airport in September. All 160 guest rooms are being refurbished following the reflagging. The Doubletree has nearly 7,500 square feet of meeting space.
