The CMP Board of Directors for the Convention Industry Council has approved new requirements for the Certified Meeting Profes­sional designation, with more emphasis on work experience and education. Among the changes: Candidates with a related college degree now will be allowed to apply with just two years of experience.

A Record 54,255 prescheduled appointments between suppliers and hosted buyers took place at the 21st annual European Incentive, Business Travel & Meetings Exhibition, a 4 percent rise from the previous year. EIBTM was held in Barcelona last month.

The Internal Revenue Service
has reduced the optional standard mileage rate for 2010 to 50 cents, down from 55 cents in 2009. The rate is used to calculate the deductible costs of operating an automobile for business.

Starwood Hotels and Resorts World­wide
is moving its headquarters to Stamford, Conn., in January 2012. The hotel company was wooed to the state by more than $80 million in loans and tax credits.
