The Convention Industry Council has updated the Certified Meeting Professional recertification application "to ensure relevancy to a broader global meeting professional while...maintaining the high standards of the credential," according to the CIC. The new process focuses on planners' work experience, education and participation in industry activities.

The Global Hotel Industry
is recovering, according to Smith Travel Research. STR statistics show that demand is back, and increased occupancy is driving growth in revenue per available room. But gains are stronger outside the U.S., as stateside hoteliers continue to drop room rates.

Workers at
32 Toronto hotels have authorized a strike over contract issues for as early as June 24, right before the G20 summit scheduled for June 26-27 in the city.

ITN International
has launched ITN Mobile Event Check-In, a smartphone-based check-in solution. The system sends attendees' event credentials to their phones as a bar code that can be read at on-site ITN Fast-Track stations.
