The Resort Hotel Association, a constortium of independently owned hotels, resorts, city clubs and spas throughout North America, has created Kindred Resorts & Hotels to market its member properties' meetings capabilities and group activities.
Founded in 1987, the RHA's main focus is leveraging the group's purchasing power for property and casualty insurance to cover the hotels, many of which are family owned. A strategic planning session concerning how the organization could better serve its members resulted in the launch of the marketing group, which aims to facilitate additional group bookings and inquiries for its members.

"We wanted to see if we could use that same group model to attract group business and promote the independent, boutique experience," said Bree Brostko, managing director. She added that meetings are big business for the properties, accounting for an average of 33 percent of their revenues.

Original Kindred members included the two Canyon Ranch locations (Lenox, Mass., and Tucson); the Lake Austin Spa Resort in Texas; New Paltz, N.Y.'s Mohonk Mountain House, and the Pebble Beach Resorts in California.

Nine properties were added to the portfolio in August: Enchantment Resort, Sedona, Ariz.; Great Camp Sagamore, Raquette Lake, N.Y; the  Madeline Hotel & Residences, Telluride, Colo.; PlumpJack Squaw Valley Inn, North Lake Tahoe, Calif.; Steele Hill Resort, Sanbornton, N.H.; The Breakers, Palm Beach, Fla.; the Scarlet Huntington, San Francisco; Tides Inn, Irvington, Va.; and Wequassett Resort and Golf Club, Harwich, Mass.

Kindred Resorts & Hotels now has 58 properties. Find details at
