Wynn MA LLC is the winner in the competition to bring a casino resort to Eastern Massachusetts. It is the second of three licenses to be awarded by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission. The first went to MGM for an $800 million project slated for Springfield.

The proposed $1.6 billion Wynn property, to rise in Everett, just north of Boston, would also include a 500-room luxury hotel, a spa and more.

The building of any casinos in Massachusetts still is uncertain, however, as an item to repeal the state's enabling 2011 Expanded Gaming Act will be on the ballot in November.

The good news for the commission and licensees: A UMass Lowell/7News poll released in September found 59 percent of the 1,624 people surveyed support the law.
