Given the still-shaky economy, hotels will be more than willing to bend a little to put on an event within your budget. Rather than following the conventional wisdom of keeping your budget secret, figure out exactly how much you can spend, and ask the hotel to deliver your event within that budget, suggests David Jewell, CMP, the Toronto-based regional vice president for HelmsBriscoe. If your offer is on the low side, be prepared to be flexible on dates.
