When planning an event for a small organization on a budget, consider pricing out space at local universities or restaurants. Many colleges rent out lecture halls, meeting rooms and auditoriums for a fraction of the cost of a hotel, and some restaurants now have dedicated event coordinators and audiovisual-equipped banquet rooms. Carrie Tuttle, a consultant for the New York City-based CT Consulting Group (ct-marketing.com), recently chose a university setting for a client's speaking engagement. "We saved the client approximately $16,000, and nearly $14,000 of that savings came from switching venues," she says.
