Few venues are more conducive to meetings than private clubs. These often secluded sites are designed to foster relationships among members who share common interests, much as meeting attendees come together to network and build professional bridges. Renowned for the privacy that they offer members, these clubs make ideal locations for hosting clients as well as executives seeking a secluded and secure setting.
That seclusion gives private clubs a reserved, exclusive feel. Attendees aren't overwhelmed by never-ending waves of tourists, or offered amenities that are created for the general public.
One such private club that invites select meetings and retreats is Ocean Reef Club, a 2,500-acre private community situated on the northern tip of Key Largo, Florida. "One reason Ocean Reef Club attracts meeting groups is because of our accessibility as well as privileged location," says Michelle Simpson, the property's executive director of sales. "Less than an hour's drive from Miami International Airport, meeting attendees can conveniently and discreetly access Key Largo's Ocean Reef Club by car, by boat, as we have our own 175-slip marina or by private plane as the community also has its own airport."

Upon arriving, meeting participants are treated to the same service levels and exclusive facilities that members enjoy. Aside from the eclectic meeting and event spaces offered in private clubs, the complimentary offerings and amenities are what attract corporate and incentive groups for meetings, conferences, retreats and team-building events. And these amenities may not be normally available to many of the meeting attendees.
Planners beware: not all private clubs are equipped to handle a sophisticated meeting. But Ocean Reef is prepared. "In February, we expanded our meeting space to 30,000 square feet total when we added a 5,600-square-foot ballroom in our new Carysfort Hall. It also has 10 naturally lit breakout rooms that open onto covered terraces and a new cooking school where we can host up to 120 attendees," Simpson explains. "This new space adds another dimension to meetings that come here for Ocean Reef's relaxed Caribbean setting, without the passport requirement."
Ocean Reef's Buccaneer Island
Carysfort Hall, joining the existing ballrooms of Town Hall, serves as the central core of the meeting space, but just beyond it is Buccaneer Island, the Caribbean-style beach club, two pools, a saltwater swimming lagoon, and a sandy beach for private parties and themed events. Not only are the venue options vast, but Ocean Reef is one of the only private clubs to make such a wide variety of amenities available to group participants. With snorkeling, deep sea fishing, 2 championship golf courses, a full service spa, tennis, croquet and much more, the opportunities to entertain your group are endless. Meeting at private clubs is not only a chance for your participants to experience some of these amenities usually reserved for members, but you also will be treated with the exceptional service that private clubs are known for.
