Tonight, a rare celestial event occurs when a full moon -- in this case, a micro Harvest Moon -- rises on Friday the 13th, the first time this has happened in, you guessed it, 13 years. Those who are staying away from alcohol can still raise a toast to the tiny full moon, which occurs when the moon is at least 251,655 miles away from Earth. This Blue Moon and Stars Margarita Mocktail from Mermaids and Mojitos will also help shake off any lingering fears of Friday the 13th (also known as paraskevidekatriaphobia, or friggatriskaidekaphobia) as the day winds down.
3 ounces frozen or homemade limeade
3/4 ounces fresh lime juice
1/2 ounce Blue Curacao syrup
1 tablespoon of silver or blue edible star glitter
1 lime cut into wedges to wet the rim for the salt
1 lime sliced for the garnish
1 tablespoon coarse salt (optional for salted rim)
Pour limeade, lime juice and Blue Curacao syrup into a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake until very cold.
Strain into a salt-rimmed margarita glass filled with ice.
Sprinkle with edible star glitter.
Serve the margarita mocktails over ice and garnish with the lime slices.
